The cheapest electric guitar on the planet! Oh No! Can you believe in that? Would You Buy it? No, really, when you are looking for cheap electric guitars, there are a few things you would like know.
Say, anything below 50 is well… and this can be argued by many, too cheap, unless you are a pro and know how to hunt for bargains, so to speak. (getting a boy that needs all its parts to be replaced and gets trashed in seconds – no!)
If you are a total beginner, it is better if you stick to the well-recognized brands of guitars like Fender, Gibson, etc. or if you just follow the recommendations of other people – see what kind of reviews particular models of guitars receive – it is easier that way.
Of course, the brand name does not matter that much, especially if you are a beginner, because well, you just want a guitar that would play okay. Lately, for example, the lower-end Fender stuff has been noticed to be produced in China – a slap in the face to the noble brand name of Fender; and also, it is a known fact that it is possible to find a cheap guitar that will sound just as good as a more expensive one, although let’s not get into that topic, for now.
You want a guitar that would
- Sound good. Believe it or not, but there are some really great sounding guitars below 500 bucks, and sometimes even below 300 bucks that can outmatch the more expensive alternatives in terms of quality of sound.
- Be comfortable and easy to play. The most common complaint from someone who is starting out and trying out his cheap electric guitar is that it is not comfortable. Fingers get hurt, etc. You don’t want that to happen to you. You also want that guitar to not have all the weird things that accompany certain brands and models. No one wants a great sounding guitar that is just isn’t playable (action is too high, the neck is way too heavy) – especially if this is your first guitar as such discomfort will discourage you from acquiring mastery in this worthwhile endeavour.
- Have all the accessories in it. Even if you ask a seasoned guitar player, he can only state his own opinion (and most people will differ in their opinion on what sound is good, what amplifier is good, etc.). Starter packs are usually shunned in the community, but they are quite useful and practical nonetheless.
