Okay, today I’m going to review Takamine Jasmine S35 Acoustic Guitar – in a few words, it is an amazing guitar for beginners, but just a beater.
Takamine – Japanese
That’s right, the Japanese (Takamine is a Japanese manufacturer of guitars) have been producing incredibly great entry-level guitars lately, the trend of which is continuing for all Asian manufacturers, in fact, and this Jasmine is probably one of the cheapest, yet surprisingly okay for a guitar in its price range. It receives inredible reviews on Amazon, though, so people must like it.
Rating:

Features – Spruce Top, Satin Finish, Rosewood FretBoard, Dreadnought 6 strings acoustic guitar.
Price Range – Under $150 – $200. With special offers Jasmine S35 can be bought for as low as $80-$100.

Pros
- Cheap as hell. Pay attention to special offers – the prices go as low as 80 bucks sometimes. Oh, and it gets rad reviews on Amazon (4.3/5.0 stars). People must love this one!
- Sounds okay. You need to apply some tweaks and modifications to it to get the most out of Jasmine S35. Use it whether for fingerpicking, strumming rythms with a pick – it works alright. Some say it is great, but it is after all an approximately $150 guitar (with the exception when there are special deals).
- Pretty durable. A beater. If you are not putting the guitar into a case, just throwing it to the back of your carseat … Jasmine S35 will take it. Well, some said it is not durable, but I think those folks are not giving enough credit to this baby – it looked much tougher in the shop when I saw it than those other (which are very few) people are saying. Let’s say, it can serve you well for 2-3 years at least.
- Does not get out of tune. Pretty impressive, huh.
- You won’t be sad if the guitar is stolen. Well, maybe a bit nostalgic (I definitely would).
- It might resell at okay price. Buy for 100 or so – sell for 80 after modifications.
Cons
- Will get 4.5/5.0 from us for the playability (how easy it is to play the guitar). Action may be a bit high for some, although that is not surprising considering the price of the guitar.
- To get the most out of Takamine Jasmine S35, you need to make some tweaks. In my opinion, you would need to change the bridge and the strings (of course). Also, you may consider cleaning it up although it should be a problem for those who are buying used acoustic guitars only, which is not rare in case of S35.
Still, despite my tone of review, it is a very decent entry-level guitar. All Takamines are decent, in fact, – it just comes to the price range of the instruments as that’s what the quality is dependent on. It definitely does not stand up to some of the more expensive models, like Seagull S6 or cool Martins, but hey – Takamine S35 is like … several times cheaper! A beater for a novice – ideal scenario, in my opinion.
For those who dont understand what I’m talking about … when comparing guitars you have to be careful about what the reviews say – are the guitar players intermediate/beginner/advanced level players? Depending on that, their tone towards an instrument of certain caliber will be different. A Taylor is 7 times better (well, not like “tastes” can be calculated in such precise numbers – everyone’s ears are different, but Taylor is great, no doubt!), but it also costs 7 times more.
In conclusion, if you are looking for your first guitar beater, I wouldn’t recommend such expensive purchases as the above mentioned. It might turn out that you don’t get into guitars and bam …
